Bungee Jumping

Picture
Bungee jumping is the ultimate personal battle over fear. It originated in the UK in 1979, when members of the famous Dangerous Sports Club made their first ever jumps off the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. The idea was inspired by the land divers of Penetecost Island in Vanautu, who would jump from wooden platforms with vines tied to their ankles as a test of courage.

The way bungee jumping works is that a bungee jumper leaps from a high location, generally several hundred feet above the ground. They have one end of an elastic chord tied around their ankle or body and the other end attached to the jump-point. Once the partcipant has jumped, the bungee chord streches to absorb the energy of the fall and the jumper  will fly upward as the chord snaps back. The jumper will continue to rebound, up and down, until the initial energy of the jump dissipates.
