Kitesurfing

Kitesurfing has taken over water recreation and is the latest craze in extreme sports. Kitesurfing, also called flysurfing in Europe, originated in the 1980s but has only gain popularity in recent years. Kitesurfing uses a power kite to pull a small surfboard on water. The first step in kitesurfing is to fly the kite into a neutral position, in which the kite is straight overhead and therefore not pulling except against one's body weight. It is suggested that kitesurfers do not venture into water without boat assistance in direct off-shore wind because of the possibility of being blown out to sea. Kitesurfers should, also, not venture into onshore winds because there is the possibility of being thrown against beach obstacles. Cross-shore wind directions are thought to be the best, because with a strong wind and flat water, it is possible for a kitsurfing expert to reach speeds of 30mph or more.
